Hidesaburo Ueno was a professor at the University of Tokyo. Every morning his faithful dog Hachiko said goodbye to his master at the front door and every evening the dog  went to the railway station to welcome his master home. One day Professor Ueno didn’t return on the usual train. He had a heart attack at work and died. The professor’s friends took (take) the dog to their house to look after him. On the first day when they arrived from work they found Hachiko missing. He had escaped and gone to the station where he met his master so many times. The next day and the day after that Hachiko did the same thing. In fact, he continued to meet his master for the next ten years until he finally died too.

Task 3

Are you a loyal friend?

You have promised to meet a friend to go shopping, but another friend has just phoned to invite you to do something better.

Do you:

a) let your first friend down and not go shopping?

b) keep to your original arrangement and go shopping?

c) phone the first friend and explain the situation?

Can you remember about another situation from your own life and prove that you or your friend are loyal to each other?

A few years ago something very similar happened to me and my friend.I invited her to my birthday party and she said that she would be there but on the day of my birthday she called me and explained that she had to go to a barbecue party with her family and that she couldn’t make it to my birthday party. She promised me that when she comes back she and I will have a sleepover and celebrate my birthday just the two of us one more time. I understood that she felt really sorry and that it wasn’t her fault .I was a little sad but I really appreciated her honesty .
